elegant & magical wedding | lindsey & dan

Louis XIV, the “Sun King” was the inspiration behind this engraved wedding invitation suite. The couple wanted an elegant, sophisticated, yet unique design with the emphasis being on a sun insignia. The bride loved the idea of incorporating a symbol that could be used throughout all of their stationery and a sun seemed most fitting considering her nickname was “Sunshine,” given to her by her father.

idieh design first created a custom sun emblem and then worked with Jennifer Schmitt Calligraphy to incorporate Jennifer’s beautiful script throughout the entire engraved ensemble. The sun emblem was cropped differently on each piece to give each card its own unique character. The liner pulled elements from the emblem and created an intricate repeating pattern. The main wedding invite consisted of a plum, charcoal, & white paper stock wrapped in a charcoal satin ribbon. The reception and response card fit snuggly behind the band, making the suite more of a package. The outer envelope was finished off with a custom wax seal with the couple’s initials. All of these elements were then carried throughout the remaining wedding stationery, such as the menus, escort cards, and table numbers.

Awesome news! idieh design is featured in the latest issue of Arizona Bride! We chose to showcase a rehearsal dinner invitation created for Lindsey & Dan, a couple who wished for the invite to reflect the Western style of their rehearsal dinner, complete with country dance lessons! This particular design mixes custom patterns & various fonts, paired with a bold combination of tangerine and red. The outer envelope is finished off with a custom label.

how fly are you?

by heidi at idieh design on

I was out to dinner with a few girlfriends one night and we were on the topic of the male species. Each of us were giving our own two cents about boys we have liked/currently like and why. It becomes my turn and I begin to talk about a boy who makes my heart beat a little faster than it should. As I struggle to find the right words to describe why I like him, I say, “He’s just supa dupa fly.” I quickly realize the statement that has just managed to escape my mouth and try to recover. No luck. My friend stops me in mid sentence and asks me to repeat what I just said. I couldn’t do it. For that split second Missy Misdemeanor Elliott took over my body and there was nothing I could do about it. I just said SUPA. DUPA. FLY. Weird. I couldn’t explain it then and I definitely can’t explain it now, but it has now become a part of my everyday vocabulary. If there is something I really like, it’s supa fly. And if it’s downright amazing, it’s supa DUPA fly.

So this, ladies and gents, is what inspired by Valentine’s card you see above.  This year, on the fourteenth of February, I’m sportin’ my red high heels, wearing my very own handmade heart headband, and utilizing my heart-shaped sunglasses to their fullest on this gorgeous, sunshine-filled day. I refuse to be anything but supa dupa fly today, boyfriend-less and all.  I hope you choose to do the same. Happy Valentine’s Day! xoxo

coding for wedding invitations

by heidi at idieh design on

qrcode

No, the image isn’t having problems loading.  This is a QR code.  You know, a Quick Response Code, which is mainly used for marketing, but I have other ideas for this nifty new technology.

Quick response codes allow people to use a smartphone to take a picture (scan) of a “barcode” (example shown above) that will then direct them to a particular link, image, or text.  There’s no need to type long web addresses or links.  Simply point, click and your phone will know where to go.

Of couse, you need some type of software to read the QR codes and there are plenty out there.  I chose the “QR app” for my iphone and it is SUPER easy to use.  Go download yours now for FREE (just search “QR app” on your iphone) and see where the above code takes you. ;)   You can even create your own QR code here.

QR codes can be used on all types of media such as packaging, posters, direct mailers, billboards, apparel, websites, emails and the list goes on and on.

Here are a few examples of how QR codes are currently being used:

  • Want to pay for your Starbucks?  Use a QR code.
  • What about a t-shirt designed for basketball player Kobe Bryant?  Fans would be able to scan the QR code on Bryant’s shirt to get his stats.  (Forbes.com) How cool is that?

So, I was thinking.  Could brides use this on their wedding invitations to maybe direct guests to their unique website? Or what about a QR code for directions to the ceremony location?  Maybe next to your list of accommodations you could put a QR code for a link to each hotel.

What do you think about this new form of technology? Do you think it will be the next big thing?
