If you follow me on social media, you are well aware that I attended ALT Summit (a business conference for bloggers and creatives alike) last week in Salt Lake City. It was such a refresher to have the opportunity to hang out with tons of amazing creatives and really connect. I’m not talking about the “networking” type of connecting where it is all business, but just the simple pleasures of finding things in common with others. For example, while sitting outside of one of the mini parties resting my feet (they needed a break!), I found myself chatting for what seemed like hours with Kim Nyhus of DENY Designs. Yes, we discussed her fabulous company and how I’m super stoked to collaborate with her, but we also talked about the Justin Timberlake concert she just recently attended. You see, I attended the same JT concert this past December and I am attending again this August. We could have talked forever just about how we want to be JT’s best friend (okay, and maybe a little more). And, I can’t forget my roomie, Brooke, of Little Retreats. We would stay up for hours after heading back to the room just talking about life. It made my little heart happy.

One particular connection that stood out to me was when I met Jenean Morrison. We were at one of many parties of the conference and she mentioned that she was sad she wasn’t able to snag a spot at the “Ask the Graphic Designer” table earlier in the day.  My natural instinct was to reply, “I’m a graphic designer and I would love to give you feedback. But, I tell it like it is.” Jenean immediately jumped on board and we talked extensively about her current brand, where it could go and some changes she could make. We even found ourselves the NEXT morning (pictured above) starting off exactly where we left off the night before. Jenean seemed thrilled to receive the feedback and it made my heart happy to offer my knowledge on branding to someone who was so open to receiving & learning from it. We could have talked for days! Hence, you all have Jenean to thank for sparking this idea to host a giveaway for a brand consultation!

I am gifting one lucky reader a one-on-one brand consultation, valued at $250. Are you ready to have a heart to heart talk about your brand? No BS. Real, tell-it-as-I-see-it, expert advice. We will focus on your branding topic of choice during the one hour intensive Skype or Google Hangout call. Ideas for topics could be:

  1. What a fab giveaway! I have been an artist, well, forever… but professionally, as my full time job, for 5 years. My collectors and buyers are THE best and my support community strong and beautiful, but I’m ready to reach a little further. 2014 is going to be huge for my studio. I can feeeeeel it. I’ve developed a lot of momentum and I’m taking some time to be sure the work I put out there is stunning. My goals for this year are pretty big (like scary-exciting big) and outside eyes on my overall brand would be extremely valuable to this growth. Thank you SO much for offering this gem of a giveaway!   3. I would love to win this! I have been blogging for a few years, but I haven’t ever had it in my budget to really focus on branding as much as I would like. I have worked my butt off to get to where I am today and I don’t feel like my branding really shows that. I know that if I were to win this, it would be life changing… LIFE CHANGING I TELL YA!

  4. What an amazing giveaway Heidi! I am so in need of this. My brand is fairly non existent and something I need to do something about! My logo is something that I am happy with. My blog recently had a facelift but could definitely use some tweaking and my website… ha! thinking about getting rid of it and just having a blogsite… I would love your professional help with this.   5. Hi Heidi!!! Thank you for this great giveaway! I recently “rebranded” to market to a different clientele. I had someone design my logo, but my website I did myself. I am tired of the “template” lifestyle, and I want to be able to match my style and personality to my clientele. I think it’s time for me to stop playing around and have a grown up look.   6. Hello Heidi! Isn’t Jenean wonderful? We sat across from each other at the Wednesday sponsor dinner! Such a sweetheart. Awesome giveaway and I *so* need this! I have been blogging for nearly three years. I started just writing about our wedding planning and fell in love. Now I have that same blog (lifestyle blog) and three others. Three months ago I was laid off from my day job and decided I really need to make a living from this blogging thing! It’s where my heart is. I just can’t go back to a cubical. After Alt, I realized I need to focus on just one blog, my lifestyle blog, and make it successful. So now it’s time for some real help … so far I have designed and coded everything myself and I’m afraid it shows. I really could use a professional “website review.” I have so much momentum after Alt and now I just need that extra push. Thanks for the great giveaway!

  8. Hi Heidi! Thanks for the giveaway. Here’s why I need a brand consultation:

    – I’m a tax professional. Federally licensed, by the IRS, but you’ve probably never heard of my designation and no one else has, either. An Enrolled Agent can represent taxpayers before the IRS through compliance, audit, collections – everything. But again, no one knows what an Enrolled Agent is, or how they can help with tax prep and beyond. Clearly, I have immediate awareness issues. I’m working on a CPA (everyone knows what that is), but that may be 18-24 months down the line and I need to feed my family between now and then.
    – As a tax pro, I’m in a market that’s not covered in beautiful photos, delicious recipes or any of those things. I provide a utilitarian service – tax compliance services. I have tried to differentiate myself by providing services entirely remotely (i.e. let a pro handle your tax returns, you don’t even have to leave your house), but again, that takes some education on how it works. I’m not the mom & pop (unlicensed preparer) tax shop in town. I’m having a hard time, not with a value proposition, but a call to action.
    – I’ve branded everything with ME. I am my business. But since few in the general population of American taxpayers know what an Enrolled Agent is, I am rethinking that strategy. I probably should have a d/b/a with the word “tax” in there somewhere. Peaceful, stress free, tax. Ohm.

  10. Hi Heidi! My name is Mandi Johnson and I own Butterfly Petals. I’m a 30 something mom of 2, lover of Stevie Nicks, antique books, the desert around me, and taxidermy. The weirder, the better.

    We’re the newest wedding florist kid on the block…except we’re not. I opened my company in 2005 and while I worked to turn my formerly home-based business into a legit design studio with staff, larger events and more creative designs, I followed all the “big names” in the Phoenix bridal world. I even worked with a few.

    Last fall we made a bit of an unintentional splash. I created a “rustic chic” design
    (pictured below) for August’s NACE event. It was a real reflection of my
    craziness. I had no idea so many folks would be there that night. The next day
    my phone was ringing off the hook and my inbox was full. So many compliments
    and I was in awe that it had such a reaction.

    Shortly after, I created another table for Soho63. This time with a hipster feel complete with a glowing marquee (my husband builds crazy things for my designs whenever I need something non-floral). The buzz continued.

    It led to several end of the year large bookings, an editorial spread, and more importantly, new relationships with planners and other industry friends.

    We’ve been “discovered,” however I still need to pay the bills and have a hard time
    turning down clients (even when their style has nothing to do with my design
    style or capability). My spring is booked solid and most are clients who came
    to me because we’re well reviewed, recommended, etc. Several told me they
    hadn’t even looked at our website or Facebook! We’re also still trying to shake
    the “budget” moniker we acquired in our early days.

    We’re on the vendor list at venues we’ve worked with from the beginning but we’re not necessarily a stylistic fit. We have a corporate client who often books us for funky desert designs but more often than not just wants floral, any floral on the tables and
    we often send out designs that fit a budget but do nothing for my soul! 🙂

    The weird adolescence I’m in right now is how to break away from the old version of my company and embrace the fact that clients and the wedding world have started to recognize we’re capable of a lot more.

    I have no idea how to market myself as the funky artist/florist or how to attract the clients who are ready for the kind of craziness I can dish out. We’re working on a website re-design but I’d love some professional advice on how the logo, website, etc. look to outsiders and how to have more impact.

    By the way, I have that same “Follow Your Heart” sweater. I’m hoping to do more of that and change things for the better! 🙂

    FABulous idieh and oh, so generous!

    I feel I need a brand consultation in all areas of your expertise! However, at the moment the most important thing would be brand cohesiveness.

    Why? Well quite honestly because I just don’t know what the heck I’m doing.

    I have very clear ideas on how I want my brand to look, who my target demographic is, & the vibe I want to portray.

    However, over the last 5 years of being a solo-preneur, my web-presence/branding has been kind of a mess (& I really hate messes!) I’ve paid top dollar for several web designers who’ve disappeared. I’ve worked on my website & marketing collateral myself in my “free time” (ha!), that was a bit disastrous. I’ve also had friends help out too. What has resulted is a mish mash of half assed attempts to get what I can so clearly see in my head to appear on paper & on the web. Blah!

    Early last year, I decided to take my 12 years of research & experience as an aesthetician & make up artists 1 step further & create a line of skin care & makeup products that are not only beautiful but they provide REAL results & are as natural as possible. This has been a labor of love. It really has been so much fun & is something I honestly don’t think I could be more passionate about.

    Working on this project has also meant that in addition to my regular full time gig clearing up skin & making faces look fabulous, I’m spending tons of extra time researching & trying to figure out all the other aspects of the brand besides what stellar ingredients the products will contain.

    I’ve recently cut my work week down to about 60 hours (from 80-90). Now, I’m just not quite getting as far along with my brand as I’d like. (Oh, how I wish I could do it all. I guess there’s really no such thing as Super Woman.)

    As the saying goes, “work smarter, not harder”. So, rather than continuing to search for proper packaging, fonts & colors, & learn about web code at 3a.m, and not even knowing where to start when I look at all of my lists on potential branding ideas, I figure it’s time I trust a real professional.

    You know things about branding that I just don’t have time to learn on my own. You know stuff about branding that I don’t even know I don’t know. Plus, I like your style & you seem like a lot of fun to work with.

    At this point, unless someone’s spent actual time with me one on one in my office, it’s virtually impossible to get the true sense of how much I can help women look & feel better. Getting the word out, is long over due & I don’t feel I can do think effectively without an fabulous cohesive brand.

    Help please!

  13. Hello Heidi. My name is Emmanuela and I really debated whether or not I should participate in your giveaway contest and it’s mostly due to the fact that it’s very hard for me to ask for help. I would love to win the contest because I’m in desparate need of assistance with developing the brand of my company which is a wedding and event planning business. I really want my brand to reflect everything that I am and attract my ideal client. I’m celebrating my 5 year anniversary at the end of the month and the things that I’ve done so far in relation to branding have not been strategic or cohesive. I don’t even know the steps that I should take to tell my story which would lead to creating my brand. I’ve just “celebrated” my second year of blogging and feel I’m finally finding my feet, but I’m still using the same basic logo and blog layout as I started with. There is a feeling that it is not quite professional and could be more navigable but I’m having trouble pinpointing why. So… help a lady out?
