Watercolor Art Supplies to Create Your Own Script

Water Colors

Hey Everyone! So I told you I would give you a list of watercolor art supplies I use when practicing watercolor script. You really only need a few items and then practice, practice, practice!! 1. First let’s talk brushes. I like to use a smaller round brush like the one here . For this brand I suggest a #6. A smaller size gives you more control of the brush and makes your lines cleaner. You have less brush to complete your strokes, so the length of the brush doesn’t get in the way. Of course a larger brush works when you have a rather large piece of paper. 2. I like to use practice paper to start because when you first start you are just learning and you go through a lot of paper. You can even just practice on computer paper and as you get better switch to watercolor paper found … Read More

Watercolor Script Video Linked to Music

Rachel Eskandari • art

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zf9o3gACvMc] Hey Everyone! As you can tell I have been really getting into making videos. Being an artist, I am very visual, so I like to show my process every now and then! I have been practicing my watercolor script, hoping to eventually teach a workshop centered around it. I thought it would be fun to match my practice to a song. Since I am obsessed with Alessia Cara’s new EP “I’m Yours,” I had to use it! Hope you enjoy! Stay tuned next week for supplies I use to practice watercolor script! Keep Creating, Rachel

LC Runway Collection NYFW Fashion Illustrations

Rachel Eskandari • art

Happy Tuesday! I am not ashamed to say I am a fan girl of anything Lauren Conrad. I started following her journey all the way back to Laguna Beach and now she just previewed her first runway collection at NYFW! How amazing is that?! The collection is called LC Runway.  You can shop the whole collection at Kohl’s! I love when designers put out affordable lines because not all of us can drop $400 on a new dress. Know what I’m saying? Anyways, I was inspired by the line to do some fashion illustrations of her new collection. The colors are so soft and light so I chose to paint on a black canvas. Really, in this case, I painted on black sketch paper. I know people enjoy seeing the process so I did a time lapse video as well! Hope you enjoy it and don’t forget to check out … Read More

Flower Watercolor Painting Clip

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iKvHdrY6fWo] Happy Tuesday! I thought this week I would give you a clip of a floral watercolor painting in action, as I am getting ready for all my watercolor flower workshops this fall! If you are interested, you can click here for more info and tickets. Workshops filled a void for me. I love teaching but I want to be able to do my business as well, so I am grateful I am able to combine the two. Are there a few things you love to do and have you thought about combining them? I would seriously think about this question because it could lead you to your next stepping stone. Creative ideas are within us we just have to reach for them! Side Note: I love choosing the music for my videos. This one is from Alessia Cara “Seventeen”. I just love her new EP! Keep Creating, Rachel

What You Dream You Can Paint

Rachel Eskandari • art fashion

Happy Tuesday Everyone! Hope everyone had a creative weekend. This weekend I had some down time to work on some projects that I have on my long to do list. For some odd reason, I usually get my best ideas at night. I find I always get over excited right before I have to go to bed, so I am on Pinterest past midnight. I do not recommend this but sometimes my brain does not shut off! Anyone else have this problem? Today I want to give you a small preview of what I have been working on! If you follow me, you know I love painting fashion illustrations. Some of the detail designers put into each of their garments is absolutely amazing. I sometimes like to picture myself in these high fashions and painting them makes each picture a little more clear. I remember my Aunt buying a Barbie software for … Read More

Palm Springs Fashion Illustration Video

Rachel Eskandari • art

Hey Everyone! August is here, which means back to business for many peeps! I made a fashion illustration video for you all, to help keep your mind in vaca mode a little longer. I first sketched out my image but I don’t always, it just depends on the drawing! I used bright paints inspired by a Palm Springs getaway. I love making these videos because I get to watch my process all in one motion. I added music by Kelly Clarkson, one of my favs ( I am seeing her in concert this month, yay!!). Hope you all enjoy! Sweet Summers of Strawberry Shortcake

Rachel Eskandari • art food

When I think of summer in Arizona, I think HOT! And what is better than a strawberry shortcake to cool you down?! This dessert brings me back to my summers in Kansas. I spent many of my childhood summers at my Grandma’s house and she made dessert for us every night.  Strawberries and cool whip were involved in many of those delightful treats. In no way would I say I am a cook, but I do like to think I have a learned a thing or two about baking. I look at baking as another creative outlet.  Many people don’t know that I love to bake and I especially love anything involving cool whip and fruit. I combine angel food cake, fresh strawberries, and a whole bunch of cool whip to make my strawberry shortcake. It really is a simple dessert. Cool whip and angel food cake are lighter than using whipped … Read More

Art Inspiration // How My Favorite Artists Inspire Me

Rachel Eskandari • art inspiration

Art inspiration plays a big role in my work. As a creative, I am always inspired by other artists and I love finding the commonalities among my work and theirs, whether intentional or subconsciously. Today I want to share with you some of my all time favorite artists and how they inspired some of my past work. 1. Willem De Kooning is one of my favorite abstract expressionist painters. I am especially inspired by his Woman series. Pictured (top left) is his Woman I painting. It was made with oil paint, charcoal and enamel. I made my own rendition with oil paint and charcoal. I call her Dita. Many people thought that his Woman series was his negative perception towards women but really it was his way of embracing his love for women. 2. Kees Van Dongen was a fauvist painter. I love how his portraiture was almost cartoon like but with so … Read More

Adding A Dark Background

Rachel Eskandari • art DIY

Hey! This week I want to show you how adding a dark background to your pieces can totally change the composition! When I think of a white background I think: clean, crisp, modern, simple. A white background keeps the focus on the foreground or star of the show 🙂 White is very trendy right now in designs of all sorts. This week I wanted to shake it up a bit and throw some blacks, grays, and indigos in the mix. I love dark colors but I tend to mix my brights with darks. I recently did a small series of cacti paintings for a local art store, Moonage Tempe, and I decided to experiment with dark backgrounds. I feel like there is more mystery in painting dark. I love the contrast between the green and black. Above, you can see the difference between using a white or black background. This piece … Read More
