The 5 Product Face

IMG_4758

We all have those days when you just don’t have enough time in the morning to do a whole glam makeup look. Keeping it simple is great to give your face a break from heavy makeup and giving it the ability to breathe. Creating a look that you can do quick in the morning is ideal when you are rushing out the door but still want to look presentable. Here are my tips and tricks for an easy look with just 5 products.

B A S E

To keep the base simple, a multi-tasking BB cream is the best choice. BB creams are easy to blend, have medium coverage, and are good for your skin. The Tarte BB Tinted Treatment 12-Hour Primer SPF 30 Sunscreen has the 5-in-1 technology. This tinted moisturizer treats, primes, hydrates, protects and camouflages the skin all at once. This eliminates the need for a primer, concealer, and powder. These types of bases are also really easy to blend in with your fingers or a beauty blender.

If you are running late on time you want to reach for multi-tasking products. A cream blush can be used on the cheeks for a pretty flush and on the lips for a tint that will last all day. This also creates a matching cheek and lip which always makes any makeup look polished. The NYX Cream Blush comes in so many different shades and is affordable. Pick some of your favorite colors so you can switch them up to your mood.

No matter where I am going I always make sure to fill in my brows. This step can change your whole look – in a good way. The fastest and timely way to fill/shape your brows is with a brow pencil. Aim for a pencil that has a spoolie on the other end so your can quickly brush them out and then fill them in. My favorite pencil is from Billion Dollar Brows. The Brows On Point Micro Pencil works to create fine hair-like lines. It is also retractable so you don’t have to worry about sharpening it. If you aren’t that into brows and you just want a quick fix, Maybelline just launched their Brow Pomade Crayon. You simply sweep on the product and it tames at the same time so they stay all day.

Eyeshadow can be a complicated step in the morning when doing your makeup but, if you use a simple eye crayon it’s simple. Make sure when you apply your BB cream that you blend it over the lids as a primer. With a natural (or crazy!) eye crayon apply it all over the lid and blend it with your finger. The NYX Jumbo Eye Pencils have a great color selection and give you different shades to play around with. You can end there or your can apply it to your crease as well. Apply a small amount to the outer corner of the eye and take a blending brush and slightly smoke it out. This will give the illusion of complicated eyes when you’ve only used one product.

The last product is a good mascara. A lifting mascara is great if you don’t have enough time to curl the lashes. I love Maybelline The Rocket Mascara because it gives the effect of more drama while still looking like your natural eyelashes. Two coats to the top lashes will give a natural yet volumizing look.

Remember to have fun with makeup and let your true colors shine!

Halloween Costume & Makeup | Antique Porcelain Doll

It’s FINALLY here. Are you ready for it? I don’t think you are. Are you sure?! Well, okay, if you say so, then I guess I can tell you.

For those of your that don’t know me, I am just a teeny tiny bit obsessed with all things Halloween. And obsessed may be a slight understatement. Last year I was the ever-so-fierce Maleficent and the year before I popped off the comic books pages as a Lichtenstein inspired character.

previous halloween

This year’s costume is, drum roll and quick Usher dance please… an Antique Porcelain Doll. And yes, it is meant to thoroughly creep you out as much as possible. Sorry ’bout it.

halloween 2015_creepy doll-26

Thanks to the spot-on makeup skills of SN Makeup Artist Stephanie Neiheisel and the photography mastermind, Michelle Herrick of Michelle Herrick Photography, I was transformed into one of those dolls you felt like was always staring at you, no matter where you would go.

Now for the FUN part! Stephanie was kind enough to share the step-by-step makeup tutorial & Michelle captured the transformation so I could share it with the idieh blogosphere so YOU can become a doll, too! Please join me!PorcelainDoll_Halloween1

Antique Porcelain Doll Makeup Tutorial

PorcelainDoll_HalloweenMakeup1PREP
First, prep your skin with appropriate moisturizers and primers then apply a good eye primer to your eye for a lasting hold and so you get the true pigment of your shadow. Try MAC’s ‘Painterly’ Paint Pot!

PorcelainDoll_HalloweenMakeup2EYES
You’ll want to start creating the shadow on your eyes. Most dolls have a soft yet hauntingly defined eye with killer lashes. If you go the beauty/victorian route you can choose warm tones like we did here! Start with a highlighter on the eyelid and 2-3 warm/deep tones on the outer-lid, outer-crease, and the bottom outer lash line. Then use a darker tone to “smoke out” the lash line.

PorcelainDoll_HalloweenMakeup3LASHES
The most important feature to this look is the top and bottom lashes. I took an Ardell Demi Wispie lash and cut it into threes so I could separate it on the eye to give it a more dramatic/avantgarde look. I placed one lash on the inner eye, one in the center above the pupil of the eye, then one on the outer eye lid. Then use tweezers and good lash glue to apply false
individual lashes to the bottom. You can make it as dramatic as you’d like! Make sure to cover the top lashes with a final application of black liner to blend the band into the look.

PorcelainDoll_HalloweenMakeup4SKIN
Dolls have perfect porcelain skin. I used a highlighter shade on the t-zones, a pale matte sheer foundation on the rest of the face, set the skin with a sheer translucent powder, and applied a generous and angular application of a warm blush to the cheeks.

PorcelainDoll_HalloweenMakeup5LIPS
The final and second most important part of the “Doll” look is the lips! You can block out the entire lip color and shape by applying a product like MAC’s ‘Painterly’ Paint Pot all over the lips. This is an eye primer that will also help hold the lip color on and keep it from budging. I started with a dark brown eyeliner from MAC called ‘Dip Down’ to reshape Heidi’s lips into a cute heart shape. Ignore the outer corners of the lip and over accentuate the bow of the lip as well as the center of the bottom of the lip. Blend the liner into the lip and then start to fill in the center with your color.

TA-DA! Now get creepy and scare some people!

How to DIY Halloween Style

Not many things get me fist pumping with both hands more than knowing we’re only a few short weeks away from the best holiday to ever exist. Ever. And no I’m not talking about the holiday time stamped with a turkey. I’m talking about the spookified All Hallows Eve!

Halloween is just kind of my thing. Hence my desire to go all out (and I mean ALL OUT) every year with my costume. Check this pic from last year’s Maleficent creation. Personally I think they should’ve hired me for the live-action film. Who needs Angelina Jolie anyways?

maleficient_02

maleficient_03

The suspension is building for this year’s big costume reveal and I can’t wait to share what I’ve cooked up in my spooky witch cauldron. Don’t get any ideas, I won’t be posing as one of the Sanderson sisters this year. While we await the big reveal, I wanted to share some of my favorite Halloween costume inspirations.

1. If you want a DIY that will knock all of the trick or treaters off their feet, you need to head to Studio DIY. Right now. Kelly is INCREDIBLY creative. I’m talking a gum ball machine, turn dial included. A fro-yo cup, cute beau as the spoon included. And even a cereal bowl that will leave you wanting to trade out your candy for some other breakfast deliciousness. The best part is, she’s got a zillion and one more ideas right on her page.

diyy

2. If your kiddos can’t keep their books on the shelves, The House that Lars Built has the perfect take on the illustrations from the classic children’s books The Day the Crayons Quit, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie and Chrysanthemum. I mean, come on. How much cuter could these littles get? (They’d be unstoppable cute if they were wearing one of these Legit tees). Take cues from these ideas and you’ll have yourself a character right out of your kiddo’s favorite book.

books

3. Now before you look at Aww, Sam‘s confectionary costumes, be warned that you may be entranced into taking a trip to your local taco joint, the movies and the state fair, all in one night. Aww, Sam is a resident baking expert which shows perfectly through her scrumptious costumes this year- the DIY taco, DIY Popcorn and DIY Cotton Candy. I think my mouth is watering already.

4. Last but not least, me! With my intense, sometimes excessive love for Halloween, I couldn’t help but include my Lichtenstein inspired get-up from a few years ago. You can become your very own comic book character with this step-by-step make-up tutorial, thanks to the uber talented Lillian Fogel with GLAM LOUNGE.

What will you come up with for your knock-out costume this year?

Can’t wait to see!

What You Dream You Can Paint

highfashion1

Happy Tuesday Everyone! Hope everyone had a creative weekend. This weekend I had some down time to work on some projects that I have on my long to do list. For some odd reason, I usually get my best ideas at night. I find I always get over excited right before I have to go to bed, so I am on Pinterest past midnight. I do not recommend this but sometimes my brain does not shut off! Anyone else have this problem?

Today I want to give you a small preview of what I have been working on! If you follow me, you know I love painting fashion illustrations. Some of the detail designers put into each of their garments is absolutely amazing. I sometimes like to picture myself in these high fashions and painting them makes each picture a little more clear.

I remember my Aunt buying a Barbie software for fashion design and I think that is when I gained a real interest in creating clothes: whether it was sketching or actual making. I always have had a dream of breaking into the fashion industry: more of the branding side with my paintings. I may get there but as of right now I can appreciate exploring and creating my favorite fashions! I say never give up on your dreams and always work toward them. Enjoy!
