Small Biz Saturday (& Cyber Sunday)

I have a love hate relationship with being a small business owner. I LOVE that I get to let my creativity loose and provide my idieh-ers with the best in #girlboss lifestyle products. I also love that *beyond* the incredible community I get to hang out with on the daily, I’m also surrounded by inspiring & super rad small biz owners.

What I sometimes get bogged down with are the always-too-regular late nights planning, prepping, designing, organizing (okay, maybe I do get some kind of sick enjoyment out of it), but those late nights and busy days mean that I’m extra thankful to have such an amazing community that supports and encourages me to do what I love.

That’s what makes this time (& more specifically, this week) so magical. It offers an opportunity to stop. An opportunity to breathe and just be. A chance to catch up with family, friends, and reflect on how rad our lives really are. And then, we get to celebrate the gift of small businesses (and I’m able to give back and thank YOU for your awesomeness)!

This year, we have something big in the works! We’re only going big on small biz Saturday (and what we’re calling “cyber Sunday” for the non-locals). We’ll be taking Friday to enjoy time with family and Monday to recover from the weekend (holla!). For Phoenix locals, on Saturday, you can catch us at Phoenix Flea from 10 am – 5 pm in Heritage Square. We have plans to share a special code for the day, so make sure to follow us on our social (Facebook and Instagram)! Then on Sunday, head to the shop for more deals for those of your who aren’t local or can’t make it to the Flea as we have FLASH SALES in the works! Got it down? Make sure to keep watch on social media all this weekend for the announcements of the special code & limited time *FLASH SALES*. It’s gonna be GOOOOOOD!

Want to get all the details delivered to your inbox on Friday in order to prep for the weekend?! Make sure to sign up for our party mail as we’ll be sending out all the details EARLY to our VIPs. EEK! (Yep, you’ll know what flash sales are happening when. What the what?!)

And, if you’re still prepping to host this year’s Turkey Day, but feeling a little behind, let me Martha Stewart-fy you with these turkey tips here:

Enjoy the holiday with your loves!  And enjoy this pic of me from last year’s #SmallBizSaturday

3 Steps + 15 Minutes to a More Peaceful Bedroom

3-Steps-15-Minutes-to-a-More-Peaceful-Bedroom-COVER-PHOTO

Your bedroom is supposed to be a sacred place.

A place where you go to relax, decompress, and fall asleep peacefully and smoothly. . .

Buuuuut, how many of us have a bedroom that is crowded with stuff, from the multiple versions of outfits we tried on that morning, to random things that were placed there because we had no where else to put them?

Having a cluttered bedroom is bad on your psyche. From the moment you wake up, it’s like a little injection of stress right as you are starting your day. It leaves you feeling tense and can play out throughout the rest of your waking hours.

So the best thing to do would be to clean it, right?

Except by the time we get home, we are exhausted, we just want to eat and watch some Shark Tank/America’s Next Top Model/Scandal before falling face down in our pillow and starting all over again the next day.

Well here’s a simple step by step guide that will take you just 15 minutes and can leave your bedroom full of peace and tranquility – making YOU start your day in a much better mood!

3-Steps-15-Minutes-to-a-More-Peaceful-Bedroom-1

I know, I know. I sound like your parents. But trust me, it really does make a difference! And if you think you can change out the sheets in less than 5 minutes (because you are just that good), then go ahead, that’s even better. Otherwise, pull the comforter or bedspread up, fluff up those pillows and be done with it.

3-Steps-15-Minutes-to-a-More-Peaceful-Bedroom-2

Do you have them tossed around all over? (I know I do!) If so, let’s deal with them quickly and get it over with.

The dirty ones need to go into the hamper. If the hamper stays in sight, make sure it has a lid. If the hamper is in the closet, a lid is not really necessary (but a “nice to have”).

If you have clothes that aren’t necessarily dirty, but you don’t want to hang them back up, then designate an area in your closet for them. Get a basket or another container to put them in so they are easily distinguishable from your other clothes.

For clothes that don’t go in the closet (such as your underpinnings) and aren’t dirty, give them a quick fold and put them in a dresser or wherever they normally go.

3-Steps-15-Minutes-to-a-More-Peaceful-Bedroom-3

With the two biggest clutter factors taken care of, now you need to remove or straighten up all the other random items invading your sleeping space.

Keep in mind the daily rule – if you don’t use it daily then it needs to be put away – and then put them away!

A #protip: this is NOT the time to clean out the nightstand drawers. If you are anything like me, you get cleaning ADD and can’t help but jump from one thing to the next. If you are going to put something in the nightstand or dresser drawer and you see a mess in there, you think MUST CLEAN EVERYTHING! However, save that task for another day when that is your only focus.

If you must keep items out, be sure they are clean and organized in a fashion that does not appear to sloppy. For example, if you’re an avid reader like me and have a pile of books and magazines laid out everywhere next to the bed, stack them neatly by putting the smallest on top and the biggest on the bottom.

If you have time, give any mirrors a quick wipe.

That may seem like a lot to get done in only 15 minutes but if you take a 1, 2, 3 approach (bed, clothes and random objects), you can declutter your place of refuge and be feeling full of zen as you start your day!

Feel free to let me know in the comments below if these tips helped! And you are always welcome to come say hi over at The Color Coded Life!

Make Over Your To Do List in An Unheard of Way

Make-Over-Your-To-Do-List-in-An-Unheard-of-Way

A website I often quote over at The Color Coded Life is The Muse. They offer amazing career search and job information, as well as listings of insanely awesome jobs that I rarely see anywhere else. I get their weekly emails and awhile back, one of them talked about how you could revamp your To Do list in a “mind blowing” way (their word). Obviously, with that kind of title, I had to check it out.

If you couldn’t tell from the name of my personal blog, I love everything organized and in it’s place. And I am a HUGE fan of To Do lists. Mine are often color coded (depending on whether it’s a work item, life item, bill, etc) as well as organized into different sections. However, I often suffer from the always-adding-never-crossing-off syndrome.

This has the effect of making my To Do list seem like a never-ending list of doom. However, since I can’t help but make one, I figured I would try out the new method suggested by The Muse post. According to entrepreneur Robyn Scott, the way to change your To Do list is simple:

redo-your-to-do-list

Some of you may be thinking – what the what? But don’t give up on this yet.

She suggests that you “create a few categories that appeal to how doing that task makes you feel . . . [such as] ‘highly helpful’ for introductions and advice giving, ‘basic decency’ for thank you notes and keeping promises, or ‘massive relief’ for tax returns and booking travel.” [emphasis added]

Further, Scott states that you should, “Make the emotion dramatic. I’ve used ‘triumphant,’ ‘massive relief,’ etc. This increases the allure. It also helps rule out tasks you shouldn’t be putting on your list in the first place. If you’re adding a task that’s not important, difficult, helpful, or nasty enough to deliver more than neutral feelings on completion, you think twice. Experiment with fun and fear. At the moment, all the states or emotions on my list are positive. But I’ve had some success using terms like ‘avoids physical and psychological meltdown,’ ‘keeps you on the right side of the law.’”

Since I sometimes tend to put off items on my To Do list because I just don’t feel like making the effort, I thought I would try her tips and see how they worked.

Outcome?

IT WORKED!

Seriously though, I was kind of shocked at how effective it was. I really didn’t think it would make that much of a difference, but I was able to check off almost all of the items I put on my list over the course of two days.

I would absolutely recommend this method to anyone who wants to make a to do list that actually works!

Until next time!
